Blessings of Vehicles

Services in the Parish is not only limited to the celebration of the Holy Mass and the other Sacraments but also the use of the Sacramentals of the Church such as Holy Water for the spiritual benefit of the people. Blessings of houses, offices, vehicles and even animals. For those in the rural settings we can include the blessings of the field before planting and thanksgiving prayers during harvest.
While I was blessing the red car above the owner preferred that the car is all opened up so that the interiors are fully blessed. I informed him later that there is a machine that we cannot open and that the Holy Water can reach only what is exterior -- that is your 'heart'. The only way that it can be blessed is for you to be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and by allowing Jesus to reign in your heart and in your whole being. Even if we put a lot of Holy Water in the car if your heart and mind are erratic and irresponsible, such as driving under the influence of the alcohol, then the danger of death is like a Sword of Damocles hanging in your neck.

Here I was blessing a tricycle which is one of the means of transportation of Filipinos in travelling from one village to the other but it is not designed for distant travel.

Blessing of Houses or of Cars are recognition that the material things that we have are not really ours but we are mere stewards and therefore necessitated to use it according to the Will of the real Owner -- GOD. Our lands, houses, money, cars are from the Lord and we recognize His Dominion over us as our King and Lord. Then, it is an act of consecration to Him. We consecrate our properties in order to be blessed by the Lord so that our life is enliven by His presence and protected from the power of the Devil.

  3. Dear Catholic Kelly,

I deleted the message before you because it was a promotion of certain products.

Thank you for appreciating this blog. You know we are doing a lot of things in the Church that we take for granted. I made this blog not to explain high theological ideas but to explain simple matters to our Catholic faithful.

Because of your comment here I was able to reread this post and correct the mispellings and other minor things that needed correction.

    God bless you.
