UPDATE: Our reader, Glenn Oliver, informed us that this is the late President Ramon Magsaysay - the Philippine leader known as The Man of the Masses - looking at Mt. Manungal where he died by plane crash.Although this is my second visit to Cebu this is my first time really to walk around the City to appreciate its Parks and Monuments. However, just like every City rich in culture and tradition it is very impractical to simply stay in a place and just enjoy its beauty and serenity. We have to move so that the few days that we've got will be enough to cover at least the major tourist spots nearby.
I wanted to get the name of the Statue that depicts one of our distinguished historical figures but failed to do so because we were rushing to proceed to Fort San Pedro and the Malacañang in the South. This Park or Plaza is also important for me because I've been informed by Bro. G-One Paisones that it is here that the Catholic Faith Defenders of Cebu regularly debate the pastors of other religions in defense of the Catholic Faith. It is no wonder then that the faith of the Cebuanos is very strong and that in the numerous times we rode around the City I only saw one Iglesia ni Cristo church. It appears to be big but in stricter inspection it is actually small but appears to be big because the structures are high.

ReplyDeleteO thank you for giving us that piece of history. Now, the statue is alive for us. Giving us the wonderful memory of Pres. Ramon Magsaysay.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the not so quick response from my end Fr., but it doest mean I am not checking on your blog, in fact, I do, every day.
ReplyDeleteBTW, that's Plaza Independencia. During the Spanish era, it was called Plaza Ma. Cristina. The white monument is for Miguel Lopez de Legaspi if I remember it right. :)
THANK YOU SO BRO. GLENN.
