Chapel of Jardin de Maria - Home for Girls of the Somascan Missionary Sisters

The Chapel of Jardin de Maria in Sorsogon City

This is my first time to enter this Chapel since the last time I visited it was during the Blessing and since the number of visitors was so large I decided not to stay on the first floor. This Chapel is right at the center of the second floor and thus, the crown of the House. Fortunately, Bro. Marwil Llasos visited me in Sorsogon and when I toured him around our houses of mission I also got the chance to take a closer look at this beautiful haven for the needy girls under the custody of the Somascan Sisters.

The Statue of St. Jerome Emiliani

Just like most of the Somascan Chapels this one is dedicated to St. Jerome Emiliani our founder and father. The Somascan Missionary Sisters are the female counterparts of the Somascan Fathers. We are taking good care of the Orphan Boys while they are doing the same for the Orphan Girls. Sis. Jane was so generous to tour us around the house.

The Shining Blessed Sacrament Repository

Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is an essential part of our spirituality thus the Chapel is usually located at the center of the House in our Orphanges and Mission Houses. The Children are starting the day and ending it praying in front of the Eucharistic Lord.

The Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Somascan devotion to the Blessed Mother is also very strong and special. We refer to her as MARIA, MATER ORPHANORUM [Mary, Mother of the Orphans]. She is the patroness and protectress of our institutions.
