Rev. Enrico and Rev. Erwin with their parents
This is the third and final part of our presentation of the Ordination to the Diaconate of Rev. Erwin Manalang, CRS and Rev. Enrico Balderrama, CRS.
Rev. Enrico with his parents
After the Holy Mass the Bishop with the newly ordained and the concelebrants obliged for a group picture to record the event. Then the priests dispersed to the sacristy to remove the thick vestments and replaced them with a more comfortable one. While we were changing the newly ordained was not able to leave the alter because family, relatives and friends lined up for a photo shoot with the two.
Rev. Erwin with his dearest mother
The parents of the newly ordained were radiating with happiness as they beheld their newly ordained sons now shining in their vestments as Deacons. They are simple people but they radiate the dignity and honor of being parents who offered their best gifts to God - their own flesh and blood... their beloved sons.
The happiness of the mother simply overflows
On my part I was taking these shots while watching them with joy. But I was cut by friends who came to pay their respect, introduced their children to me for blessings and to chat with long time friends from the area. Some of our former students then are now happily married and they are so happy to see us again. I was also delighted to see the lady whom I helped in her journey from Aglipayan Church to the Catholic Church. She is now happily married to her husband in the Church and showed me their children.

Then, when I went down to the Basketball court where the reception was held I got the chance to talk more with our Indonesian seminarians, with the nuns of various Orders and with our own seminarians. It is truly a blessing from the Lord to attend this kind of gathering. I was not only inspired by the Ordination itself but also touched by how much we as a Congregation and with other religious are so united with each other in the bond of faith and charity.

ReplyDeleteDear Fr. Abe,
Peace and Goodness!
Hello Father! wow, its nice to see again the pink sisters' convent in tagaytay. you know what Father, every time I visit my alaga who is a seminarian or whenever we visit him (with my colleagues from CEU) to their seminary, lagi ko pong binibisita yang pink sisters sa tagaytay. no matter how tired we are sa pamamasyal po by commuting, as soon as we enter that place, wow, very soothing at nawawala po ang pagod namin.
Its a good thign Father na nakakakuha po kayo ng pics inside the chapel. kais po, nung kukuha po sana ako nun, I was stopped by a security guard, hindi daw po pwede mag take ng pictures kay simula po nun, hindi na po ako nag attempt.
yung lang po Father, just sharing my light moments with you po. thnank you po again and God bless.
In the Light of the Immaculate,
Bro. Jayson
Dear Bro. Jayson,
ReplyDeleteTHE LORD IS KIND AND MERCIFUL!
It's nice to know that my own experience and feeling of spiritual presence of God in the Pink Sisters are shared by you and your friends. Indeed, that House of Worship is heaven on earth.
Most probably the guard didn't prevent me in taking pictures because I was wearing a clerical cloth and he greeted me as 'Father' so he didn't dare to stop a priest. He, he, he... This is the clerical privelege. We can do a lot of things in the Philippines because our people are majority Catholics and our clergies are well loved and respected. We have sacrifices for our clerical vocation and mission but there are also a lot of blessings. Next time you enter the Chapel wearing a Cassock the guard will bow to you in respect.
Well, actually the one being respected is not the person but the 'holy office' as well as the consecration that God had given to the priest.
PRAISE BE JESUS AND MARY!
Praised be Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
ReplyDeleteDear Fr. Abe,
Ave Maria!
Thats true Father. everytime we visit the place, there is this a tremendous feeling of nostalgia and the sense of the sacred especially during the chanting of their Liturgy of the Hours, wow, very soft, very Angelic po Father. (I have tapes produced by their order and I bought it pa po from Baguio where their first convent founded in 1931).
Wow, how fortunate are you po Father, heheheheh. I thank the Lord for giving you such a wonderful privilege po Father. yes indeed, Filipinos have a high regard and respect for Our Filipino Priests (Me, Bro. TJ and Sis. April have a high regard and respect for you po Fr. Abe and we thank the Lord for crossing our paths). In Pampanga, they call their priests as "Among" or in kapampangan term parang more respect pa po sa Pari like that po.
Sad to hear nga lang po Father, there are some faithful, like lang ni ang mga pari or nirerespeto nila if priests are good to them but when the time comes na medyo nag iba lang ng konti ang ugali po ang pari, paran for some, its a mortal sin na. as if priest dont have feelings also na pwedeng masaktan. I was taught by my mom na never attacvk a priest, even if they are somewhat ill-tempered or unworthy. instead, pray for them and extend your helping hand to them.
Yes tama po kayo Father, bihira narin ang mga pari na nag sususot ng cassock at clerical garb (only few congregations such as yours po, the Franciscan COnventuals, Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate of Fr. Stefano Manelli, The Opus Dei, the Oblates Alliance of the Two Hearts and some diocesan priests also). malaki po ang naitututlong yung pag susuot ng religious habits po because this will be a habit of penance and a reminder that you are a consecrated to God and at the same time, you wont be disrespected by people. I heard once po na one lady in the mall, when she saw priests wearing cassocks, she said "naku, nakakalimot na ako sa Panginoon" this is only the indication that its a reminder for them po to amend their lives and go back to the Church. Many saints also have a high regard for their priests. may isang saint pa po, hinahalikan pa ang dinaanan ng pari, the steps of the priests.
He he he he.. Father, you gave me an Idea on how to take pictures sa pink sisters. Dont worry Father, i'll follow your advice. I will not only wear the cassock but to wear the purple one (used for MC during massses) na may tassle sa baywang plus a birreta with surplice. the guard will not only bow but to genuflect saying "your excellency or your eminence" sabay halik sa sing sing po.. hehehehhe JOKE ONLY Father!
Thats true Father, its the holy office po talaga, the priesthood.
Father thank you ulit and God bless po!
In the Light of the Immaculate,
Bro. Jayson
P.S. You know what po Father, natawa po tlga ako dun sa wearing the cassock po.. hindi po ako maka recover, heheheh. God bless po ulit.
Dear Bro. Jayson,
ReplyDeleteBLESSING OF PEACE AND CHARITY!
I remember Bishop Chito Tagle during one of our classes in Theology way back 1996. He was still Fr. Chito then. Here in the Philippines when our priests commit mistakes like for instance in driving, the cops or the government officials will excuse them and treat them with respect and love. Then one day he was in the U.S. and he was asking some help from airport personnel but he was being refused. Finally, he decided to try the clerical privilege as a sort of last resort since he was needed for a Mass. The said: "But, ma'am I'm a Catholic priest and I need to be in this destination as soon as possible will you please allow me in?" The attendant answered back "SO WHAT!". Fr. Chito narrated it smilingly and jokingly and added: "Then I realized that I was not in the Philippines or in a Catholic territory. For them priesthood is nothing while for us it is a manifestation of the presence of God."
GOD BLESS YOU.
PRAYER
ReplyDeleteTO THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
MARY,
Who as teacher of faith, by your obedience to the word of God, has co-operated in a remarkable way with the work of redemption, make the ministry of deacons effective by teaching them to hear the Word and to proclaim it faithfully.
MARY,
Teacher of charity, who by your total openness to God's call, has co-operated in bringing to birth all the Church's faithful, make the ministry and the life of deacons fruitful by teaching them to give themselves totally to the service of the People of God.
MARY,
Teacher of prayer, who through your maternal intercession has supported and helped the Church from her beginnings, make deacons always attentive to the needs of the faithful by teaching them to come to know the value of prayer.
MARY,
Teacher of humility, by constantly knowing yourself to be the servant of the Lord you were filled with the Holy Spirit, make deacons docile instruments in Christ's work of redemption by teaching them the greatness of being the least of all.
MARY,
Teacher of that service which is hidden, who by your everyday and ordinary life filled with love, knew how to co-operate with the salvific plan of God in an exemplary fashion, make deacons good and faithful servants, by teaching them the joy of serving the Church with an ardent love.
Amen
“They were to be men
ReplyDelete“full of the Spirit and wisdom” (cf. Acts 6:1-6)
In other words, the social service which they were
meant to provide was absolutely concrete,
yet at the same time it was a spiritual service;
theirs was a truly spiritual office
which carried out
an essential responsibility of the Church,
namely a well-ordered love of neighbour.
With the formation of this group of seven,
“Diakonia” – the ministry of charity
exercised in a communitarian, orderly way –
became part of the fundamental structure of the Church. (no 21)
“… love for widows and orphans,
prisoners, and the sick and needy of every kind,
is as essential to [the Church]
as the ministry of the sacraments
and the preaching of the Gospel.
The Church cannot neglect
the service of charity
any more than she can neglect
the Sacraments and the Word. (no. 22)”
Pope Benedict XVI, Deus caritas est, 2006.
Dear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for that beautiful prayer asking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mother for our newly ordained deacons.
May the Lord bless you too.
Dear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThank you so for that wonderful quote from Deus Caritas Est of Pope Benedict XVI. Indeed these two deacons are dedicated workers in the vineyard of the Lord especially in the works of charity.
Rev. Enrico is serving in our House for Orphans and Needy Children in Dumaguete City while Rev. Erwin served in its counterpart in Sorsogon City. And he is now the religious assigned to guide our seminarians from Flores, Indonesia.
I want to praise the Lord for giving us these two deacons who are geniune workers of charity in the Church.
God bless you.
