PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY! MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!

La Immaculada Conception, Patrona de las Islas Filipinas

The Philippine Flag victoriously reigning in Peace
For a day and a half our internet service suffered interruption so it is only now that I am able to blog again.
Today our nation is celebrating its Independence Day and of course there are no classes in school and the employees are out as well. Only the staff of AITV5 are here to bring the news to the homes of the people of Sorsogon.
You must have noticed that above the picture of the flag I put the image of the Immaculate Conception. It is because the Immaculate Mother, MARY, is the patroness of the Philippines. It is my prayer that through the intercession of our beloved Patroness our nation will be blessed with genuine Peace, Justice, Unity and Prosperity.
For those who are not aware of the Philippine History here is the short presentation about our Independence Day in Philippine Wikipedia:
The Philippine Declaration of Independence occurred on June 12, 1898 in Cavite el Viejo (now Kawit), Cavite, Philippines. With the public reading of the Act of the Declaration of Independence, Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the sovereignty and independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain, which had been recently defeated at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.
In the presence of a huge crowd, independence was proclaimed on June 12, 1898 between four and five in the afternoon in Cavite at the ancestral home of General Emilio Aguinaldo some 30 kilometers South of Manila . The event saw the unfurling of the National Flag of the Philippines, made in Hong Kong by Mrs. Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo and Delfina Herboza, and the performance of the Marcha Filipina Magdalo, as the Nation's National Anthem, now known as Lupang Hinirang, which was composed by Julian Felipe and played by the San Francisco de Malabon Marching band.
The Act of the Declaration of Independence was prepared, written, and read by Senior Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista in Spanish. A passage in the Declaration reminds one of another passage in the American Declaration of Independence. The Declaration was signed by ninety-eight people, among them an American army officer who witnessed the proclamation. The final paragraph states that there was a "stranger" (stranger in English translation — etranger in the original Spanish, possibly meaning foreigner) who attended the proceedings, Mr. L. M. Johnson, described as "a citizen of the U.S.A, a Coronel of Artillery". The proclamation of Philippine independence was, however, promulgated on the 1st of August, when many towns had already been organized under the rules laid down by the Dictatorial Government of General Aguinaldo.
Later at Malolos, Bulacan, the June 12 proclamation was modified upon the insistence of Apolinario Mabini who objected to that the original proclamation essentially placed the Philippines under the protection of the United States.
The Official Flag of the Republic of the Philippines. The Philippines celebrated its Independence Day every July 4, the date in 1946 that the United States granted independence to the nation, until 1962, when President Diosdado Macapagal signed the Presidential Proclamation No. 28, changing the official celebration to June 12, the date in 1898 that Emilio Aguinaldo declared the nation's independence from Spain.
On June 12, 1998, the nation celebrated its centennial year of Independence from Spain. The celebrations were held simultaneously nationwide by then President Fidel V. Ramos and Filipino communities worldwide. A commission was established for the said event, the National Centennial Commission headed by former Vice President Salvador Laurel presided all events around the country. One of the major projects of the commission was the Expo Pilipino, a grand showcase of the Philippines' growth as a nation for the last 100 years, located in the Clark Special Economic Zone (formerly Clark Air Base) in Angeles City, Pampanga.

  1. "Lupang Hinirang" our national anthem is pure pilipino? I don't recall any foreign words in it.

  2. I am not a historian so cannot give you a definitive answer. I never stated that there is a foreign word in it so I don't know where you got the idea for that question.

On the other hand, I remember my late mother narrating us that there is an Spanish version of the Lupang Hinarang, our national anthem. She used to sing it to us when we were young. Then I was told several times that our first Ms. Universe, Gloria Diaz [Miss Universe, 1969] impressed many foreigners in Florida then because she sang the National Anthem while being interviewed in Spanish. When I entered the seminary one of our teachers sang for us the same spanish version of the national anthem.

I don't know if the Spanish came first before the Tagalog one but I think the Tagalog version is the one that shrined itself in the heart and mind of the Filipino people.

I'l try to check more on that one. Try to Google it or look for it in Philippine Wikepedia.

  3. I would like to confirm that the Spanish one was the first version. It was named "Himno Nacional Filipino". The second one was in English. It was named "Philippine Hymn". Then the third one was the Filipino version. Many Presidential proclamations have changed its Filipino name up to Lupang Hinirang.

  5. It is only now that I have visited you site again Father, as always, I appreciate the good fight, your advocacy to educate young & old Catolicos outside the churchs' flock.

The freedom that Aguinaldo proclaimed in Kawit was short lived for it was an immature celebration, even Mabini opposed it because the Americans had already set their eyes on conquering the islands, our real freedom - if we still can call it that is when the Americans turned over the government, even though we remained very much under them as they continue our policies. The flag and the symbols of revolutions are very Anti Catholic Father, as these symbols are masonically inspired - we must remember that the revolution was inspired by the french revolution and the other insurrection whose proponents were leaders who had lost their religion, whose goal was to demolish Catholic dominance.

  6. Dear withonespast,

Welcome back in the Splendor of the Church.

It is true that the Independence proclaimed by Aguinaldo was short lived. However, if I'm not mistaken Pres. Diosdado Macapagal chose June 12 over July 4 [the date when the U.S. govt. handed us our Independence] is due to the fact that the former was attained by Filipinos no matter how shortlived while the latter was simply handed and therefore still a sign of our dependency as a nation.

It is also true that Washington still influences our policies as a State and therefore we are still subject to manipulations. However that is a reality of life that cannot be removed. All superpowers: Egypt, Babylon, Assyria,Greek, Romans, Spain, France, Britain, U.S., Russia, China all influences other nations. Regardless of who or what is the reigning superpower there will always be interference. Once the U.S. powers decline do you think that the successor will truly leave us alone? Of course not. But, the interference of Washington in our affairs is still wrong for us of course.

Concerning our flag having Masonic Symbol. Well, the designers most probably thought that way. But looking at the flag itself I can't see any distinctive masonic symbol. For instance, Red, White, Blue and Yellow are Catholic colors too in Liturgy. Then the Symbol of the Sun is pagan and Christian at the same time. Jesus is the Sun... the Daystar of our life according to the Sacred Scriptures. The Sun is the symbol of Christ and of God also. We worship on Sunday. Then the rays of the sun is not a Masonic symbol but representing the provinces who fought during the revolution. Much more I can see at the rays of the sun a strong similirity with the tri-linear rays usually put as part of the halo of Jesus and the Saints in our Sacred Images.

I do not deny however that the possibility that the origal concept of the flag was created under the influence of Masonic principles.

    Thank you.

  7. It is Father, as Aguinaldo indicated, "The successful revolution of 1896 was masonically inspired, masonically led, and masonicaly executed, and I venture to say that the first Philippine Republic of which I was its humble president, was an achievement we owe, largely, to masonry and the freemasons". With the flag being a masonic symbol, in 1899 Ambrocio Flores, Gran Consejo Regional of the Masons and a general in Aguinaldo's army, "this national flag resembles closely our masonic banner so that when you see it in any part of the world, waving with honour amidst the other flags of the world, acknowledged by other nations, let us hope that with this flag, and through it,our common parent, Freemasonry, will likewise be honored".

There is a reason why our religion opposes their principles - we all should study history with caution, for more than a hundred years now we have allowed people to degrade Catolisismo and we continue to do so by believing spoon fed history, the ones that tells us that Catolica was founded by evil men and that what they gave us staunted us and gave un no meaningful transformation.

Thank you Father for allowing me to share here, please command me if you should be needing anything esp. Filipino history, for you should find me useful, i hope :)

  10. HERE IS THE SPANISH, THE FILIPINO AND THE ENGLISH TEXT OF THAT HYMN:

No Mas Amor Que El Tuyo

Letra de Manuel Bernabe (see biography below)
    Musica del Simeon Resurreccion

No mas amor que el Tuyo
    O corazon divino,
    El pueblo Filipino,
    Te da su corazon.
    En templos y en hogares,
    Te invoque nuestra lengua,
    Tu reinaras sin mengua
    De Aparri hasta Jolo.

    Coro:

    Ha tiempo que esperamos
    Tu imperio en el Oriente,
    La fe de Filipinas
    Es como el sol ardiente,
    como la roca firme,
    Inmensa como el mar.
    La iniquidad no puede
    Ser de estas islas duena
    Que izada en nuestros montes,
    Tu celestial ensena,
    Las puertas de infierno
    No prevaleceran.

    ****

Here is my proposed translation based on the Tagalog translation and my intuitive guess (You may send me a better translation):

There is no greater love than yours

There is no greater love than yours, O Most Sacred Heart,
so we, the Filipino people, offer you our hearts.
In our temples and in our homes, we cry out to you.
May Your kingdom stand firm from Aparri to Jolo.

    Chorus:

Long we have hoped for Your empire in the East.
Like the sun burning bright is the faith of the Philippines,
It stands strong like a rock and fills all void like the sea.
Never shall these islands be possessed by sin,
For on our mountains is raised your heavenly sign
And the gates of Hell shall not prevail.

    * It is connected with our country, the Philippines, dear Diocese of Imus because that was the theme song for the International Eucharistic Hymn when it was held in the country I think, if I'm not mistaken, in 1935.

  12. We cannot deny the fact that Freemason's are great men. Almost all of our Filipino heroes are Masons. Our National Hero Dr.Jose Rizal died as a Mason. Our Philippines Flag is a Masonic Flag, the 1898 Revolution is a Masonic Revolution Masonically inspired & Masonically lead. Restruction is a very big lie.
The Catholic Church was founded my evil men (Romanist) blood thirsty !

  13. [We cannot deny the fact that Freemason's are great men.]

    Great in your hallucinations.

[Almost all of our Filipino heroes are Masons.]

There are more Filipino heroes that are not members of Masonry and are Catholics.

[Our National Hero Dr.Jose Rizal died as a Mason.]

You are lying here. JOSE RIZAL DIED AS A CATHOLIC. He made his final Confession, attended the Holy Mass and received Holy Communion before dying. That is the reason why he was assisted by Jesuits priests on the way to Bagumbayan.

[Our Philippines Flag is a Masonic Flag,]

NOT ANY MORE. MASONS DO NOT OWN THE SUN AND THE STARS. THEY BELONG TO OUR CREATOR-GOD.

The Philippine Flag is THE FLAG OF THE ONLY CATHOLIC NATION IN ASIA.

[the 1898 Revolution is a Masonic Revolution Masonically inspired & Masonically lead.]

THAT IS WHY IT WAS A FAILURE. AGUINALDO AND CO. BECAME TRAITORS TO BONIFACIO. Many revolutionaries became traitors to each other.

[Restruction is a very big lie.]

    MASONRY IS A LIE.

[The Catholic Church was founded my evil men (Romanist) blood thirsty !]

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS THE MOST PEACEFUL RELIGION IN THE WORLD. IT IS MASONRY WHICH IS BLOOD THIRSTY. IT IS THE POWER THAT FEEDS HATRED AMONG PEOPLE WHICH GAVE BIRTH TO NAZISM AND COMMUNISM WHICH ARE BOTH ANTI-CATHOLICISM.
