The Ateneo de Naga University Chapel

A closer look at the facade of the Ateneo de Naga University Chapel

These photos were taken early this month when our Aemilianum College Varsity, the Aemilianum Knights played a friendship game with Ateneo de Naga Varsity. It was intented to be the third part of the trilogy presentation on Ateneo de Naga but hectic schedule prevented me to complete it.

Tomorrow the Ateneo de Naga University Basketball Team will be hear for the second time in four years I think, in order to reciprocate our visit in their Gymnasium. Thus, it reminded me to finish the triology.
The Beautiful Chapel from the Main Entrance
This beautiful house of worship is located at the right side of the Ateneo de Naga after one's entrance in the main gate. The chapel is magnificent in appearance even though it is not yet fully painted. It has been given due importance by building it in a place of honor and by beautifying to be truly a fitting House of Worship for the glory of God.

The pews leading to the Main Altar
The Chapel is very clean and well oranized. It was simple but very beautiful. The woods are mostly made of Narra which is the best and most durable in the Philippines. The confessional box is at the back but the This not gloomy or dark inside. The atmosphere of silence is palpable and it is really conducive for prayers and meditations. Truly a fitting tribute to God and to Jesuit spirituality as envisioned by St. Ignatius of Loyola.

The Confessional
The Artwork at the Main Door of the Chapel
Closer look at the main door reveals Filipino religiosity. The famous Mayon volcano is depicted with Mary as the 'Ina' [Mother] of Bicolandia and the people kneeling in worshiip of God.

The Confessional Box viewed from afar. It is wonderfully made of Narra wood just like the main door and the pews and also as eloborately and artistically designed.

The Altar of Eucharistic Sacrifice
The Table of the Eucharist beautifully designed with the Holy Cross inside a flower that resembles the Burning Bush The lectern of the Word of God is decorated with artworks depicting Creation, the Filipino's stewardship of the earth, the Lion of Judah, the Eagle which is a Biblical imagery of God carrying His people on His pinions and the Carabao.
