Noynoy Aquino filing his Candidacy for the Senate with his late Mother, Cory Aquino, sister Kris and brother in law James YapMANILA, Philippines — The color yellow, long associated with the late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, is now her son’s, too.
Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, the son and namesake of martyred opposition leader Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., Friday issued a call to those who want him to run for president to wear yellow.
The bachelor senator has admitted in several interviews that he has yet to find a compelling reason to seek the country’s No. 1 post.
To help him make that decision, the senator turned to the ever reliable “yellow,” the trademark of his mother, Cory, and symbol of the Edsa I People Power revolt.
Riding on the crest of public outcry over the 1983 assassination of Ninoy, Cory unified the fragmented opposition in the 1986 snap election. Against all odds, she ran for president to challenge the 20-year rule of strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
People’s mandate
“Wear something yellow on your person, your ID, house decor, car stickers to show that many of us here are still hopeful and committed to change our country,” Noynoy Aquino told reporters.
The senator, who barely warmed his Senate seat after being elected in 2007, made it clear that he was not being overly ambitious by considering the presidency.
“If this is only my ambition, it is pointless. If a lot of people will share the ambition of where we want to go, then that’s a certainty. But if I will be the obstacle that will prevent this certainty, I will not run,” he said.
“The only way it will become feasible is if it becomes a people’s campaign,” he said, adding that in such a scenario, “the mandate of the people is there, and it’s really the people’s clamor.”
Color of commitment
Asked why the need to show the color yellow, he explained that winning the electoral battle was not the ultimate goal of running for president.
“You’re not only concerned about Election Day, but more important, if you’re lucky, you will have a position backed by supporters to help you push for reforms,” he said. “So this early, I hope this commitment can be shown.”
Amid observations that he was passing the burden to the people instead of deciding for himself whether he was really prepared to become president, Aquino said the signature campaign launched to make him run was “good, but wearing that yellow is imperative to show commitment.”
“All of these manifestations, taken together, give you more confidence that it is not just a pipe dream,” he added.
“Wearing yellow will be a statement from the people that they are committed to doing something for the country. That’s the message.”
Mounting calls
Calls for the senator to run for a higher post have been mounting since his mother’s death.
The Aksyon Demokratiko party of the late presidential candidate Raul Roco led the others in formally endorsing Aquino as its standard-bearer with an announcement from Roco’s widow, Sonia, on Monday.
The senator said, however, that he would gladly participate in the consultation process of the Liberal Party, of which he is a member, and meet this weekend with its president, Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, who has been endorsed by some party leaders as the LP standard-bearer in 2010.
Other invitations for a meeting will have to wait until after Sept. 9, the 40th day of his mother’s death.
Clamor
The senator said he was aware some have raised the issues of competence and lack of experience, by way of discouraging him from running for the top post—the same issues used against his mother. “Some said I’m not yet ripe for the picking,” he added.
Aquino has cited his four siblings—Ballsy, Pinky, Viel and Kris—as the reasons for his reluctance to immediately make a decision, among others.
But he said that he could get his siblings’ endorsement only “if they see that there is really a clamor. Then we have an obligation that we have to fulfill and my sisters will not back down. What I am hoping for is that their decision will be something that will come from their hearts.”
“Many ask why I remain undecided,” Aquino said. “In the first place, I had no plans of running for higher office. It’s not an easy job. I ask you, how many can honestly raise their hands and volunteer to take on this great responsibility? You have to think it over before you accept the challenge. You don’t want to fail. Most important, you don’t want to fail those who believe in you.” [Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 05:57:00 08/29/2009]

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your reaction.
ReplyDeleteIndeed we need to unite with one who can unite all. And only Noynoy can do that.
Aksyon Demokratiko already chose Noynoy. If PDP-Laban will do the same then he will be a greater force to reckon with and the LP will be persuaded to anoint Noynoy as well. We need someone like him who has no appetite for power but with great faith, deep seated virtues and ready to serve as the leader of the people.
ReplyDeleteMy parents ia Roman Catholic and Im baptist as Catholic threfore I have the right to study and to deffend the Catholi Faith.
Is the divive nature die or only the Human nature ?
Thank you Im your response....
I THINK YOU ARE ACTING LIKE A PSYCHOTIC. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS GIVEN THE OFFICIAL EXPLANATION OF THE HYPOSTATIC UNION IN THE CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND YOU CAN READ FUTHER EXPLANATION IN CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA.
ReplyDeleteMY PERSONAL DECISION NOT TO RESPOND TO YOUR REQUEST IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT I DON'T KNOW YOU AND MY COMMENTS MIGHT ME USED TO IGNITE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CFD DAVAO AND CEBU. The CFD leadership is correct and wise. They should stop arguing about that matter because the official teaching of the Church is clear.
IF THERE IS ONE WHO IS 'TAKOT' HERE IT IS YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE AFRAID TO REVEAL WHO YOU ARE.
YOU ARE ASKING ME A FAVOR TO EXPLAIN AND I HAVE REASON NOT TO REPLY IMMEDIATELY FOR PRACTICAL REASONS. IM DOING IT OUT OF RESPECT TO BOTH CFD DAVAO AND CEBU.
IF YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND MY STAND THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM NOT MINE. THE LEADERS OF CFD DAVAO HAVE COPIES OF MY OFFICIAL STAND ON THE MATTER AND THAT IS ENOUGH FOR ME. IF YOU HAVE BEEN HONEST WITH ME I COULD HAVE SENT IT TO YOU PERSONALLY THROUGH E-MAIL BUT YOU ONLY GAVE ME MORE REASONS NOT TO TRUST YOU.
If Nonoy Aquino will run for President, I will go home to the Philippines and personally campaign for him. I also want to join him and share my skills and talents that I learned here in the US. I also campaigned for her mom when she ran for president, Mabuhay ka nonoy at mabuhay ang Pilipino. Bong Duenas, Saint Helena, California. saints5555@yahoo.com

Thank you very much Anthony and Dimple for your generosity for the Moral and Political Change in our country. Thank you for your generosity. You can find in the internet the website of NOYNOY FOR PRESIDENT MOVEMENT and of LIBERAL PARTY. They can give you specific details how you can help the candidacy of the beloved Son of our National Heroes. God bless you both.
ReplyDeleteI think we have to put an end to this political dynasty. Another Aquino in power will not solve our problems.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your opinion Atty. Castro.
ReplyDeleteEstrada, Aquino, Roxas, Escudero, Teodoro, Villar with his wife and Binay are also part of political dynasty.
That issue must be taken into considerations in our choice of National Leaders.
"Hindi daw mangngungupit sa kaban nang ating bayan".Sana nga..subalit paano??..wala naman ako sa tabi niya upang pagmasdan at busisiin kung ano ang pamamalakad..ang tanong paano mapanghahawakan ang speak speak na yan..pinoy pa matiisin yan sa paghihintay..kahit mahaba ang pila subalit may resulta kung baga..kulang man ok lang...bastat ba uusad ang pila..ano ang mapapanghawakan namin kung sakali
ReplyDeleteDear Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteIkaw lang ang makakasagot ng iyong tanong kasi it is your criteria that must be met by the candidate to prove his honestry and sincerity.
I have my own criteria why I chose Noynoy:
1. He was never accused of stealing people's money or enriching himself while Tita Cory was President, despite the fact that he was practically the First Gentleman then.
2. In his 12 years in public office his image and record is very clean on graft and corruption.
3. He is the son of Heroes: Ninoy and Cory. He is morally, spiritually and genetically obligated to uphold their values and since his childhood he is found worthy of that dignity and honor.
4. His campaign funds came from the people through PISO-PISO PARA KAY NOYNOY and donations and performances made by volunteer artists, etc. So, since there is no huge amount of money he spent he is not obliged to steal from public funds to return his capital.
5. Nonoy is a tetanus to the corrupt politicians. His family defeated the Marcos Dictatorship, he voted for the impeachment of the Plunderer Erap and did the same to Arroyo. Other candidates turned a blind eyes on Erap and Arroyo.
These are some of my reasons why I believe in Noynoy. TATAYA AKO KAY NOYNOY.
Peace... Ever since Ninoy Aquino's family in into politics, I've been their supporter. No matter what others will say /comments, I still remain loyal, because of their integrity..
Pero si Nonoy for 11 years wala akong matandaan daang ginawa niya.
Ibig sabihin super trapo. Pera ang pinagagana.
ReplyDeleteSi Noynoy laging present sa Congress at Senate. He always participated in the debates and activities in both houses of Congress. SINGIT AT TAGA.
Noynoy is surely performing better than him in debates. Mas matalino si Noynoy. Mas mapera lang si Villar.
This is not a symphatetic vote. This is a vote of confidence. GO NOYNOY!
“THE EDSA 1986 VETERANS SUPPORT SEN “NOYNOY” AQUINO IN HIS PRESIDENCY OF TRUE PEOPLE EMPOWERMENT”
ReplyDeleteWe speak for the Legions of retired and still active AFP/PNP officers and soldiers who joined the late President Cory Aquino and the Filipino people in the EDSA 1986 Revolution which toppled the oppressive Marcos regime. Many of us in recent years again followed our ailing President Cory Aquino in her crusade to change a more oppressive, corrupt regime and unite the Filipino people in a fight for true reforms in ourselves, in our institutions and in our national character.
Our beloved President Cory is now in heaven but the torch of this crusade is now passed to her son, Senator “Noynoy” Aquino who is seeking the Presidency in 2010 to affect the true reforms that all Filipinos are longing for.
We believe that Senator Noynoy has the strength of character, the moral uprightness and the selfless love for the Filipino people to lead and unite all Filipinos in this crucial struggle for survival against the forces of evil and return dignity and honor to the public service. We also believe that Senator Benigno Aquino III has the courage and the unswerving determination to dislodge the well entrenched vested interest groups in our country now controlling our political leadership and return real political power to the Filipino people.
We appeal to our comrades still serving in the AFP/PNP to join us in this crusade for reforms by remaining true to the Constitution and resist the pressure of the present cabal of political leaders and vested interests to frustrate the people’s will in the 2010 elections by use of guns, gold and naked abuse of political power. We also appeal to the COMELEC, to the Department of Education teachers and to the Department of Justice officials to give political power back to the people by ensuring the coming 2010 elections to be honest, peaceful and orderly.
We must not fail for this is our last chance for democratic and peaceful change.
(SIGNED)
MAJ. GENERAL RAMON E. MONTAÑO AFP (RET)
