More on ABC Basketball Clinic

Some of the kids enrolled in Basketball Clinic with Cris Espedido, an Aemilian Knight

Earlier I reported about the Basketball Clinic for kids to be held in Aemilianum Gymnasium. Friends sent me queries asking for development news about that project.

The project started during the 3rd week of July and it was a success. The organizers, Coach Aldin Ayo and his wife Joy prepared materials for 40 people but the reservations they received from parents after they appeared on AITV5 Campus Talk show far surpassed their expectations.

Right after the program parents started calling for reservations so that the couple was forced to increase the number to 70 kids. And during the actual day itself another 30 came but they decided not to accept anymore because they will not be given proper attentions once they are too many. The heart of coach Aldin was really bleeding since many of the boys came with their parents and they were already dressed for Basketball training. They were raring to go but 70 was already enough for the organizers.

The couple promised to accommodate the boys next time this coming 2nd semester. And as early as first week of August reservations request keep on pouring in. Especially because the parents who accompany their kids in the clinic are spreading by word of mouth the good quality of the training being given and how the kids are enjoying themselves very much.

Coach Aldin also requested the Aemilianum Varsity players, the Aemilian Knights to be his assistants for the clinic. Of course they agreed because this project is for them. The income coming from this program will finance many of their activities and needs. Some of those who helped were Jojo, Peter, Jeff, Cris, Dennis, Jonathan, Gilbert and Jose.

Coach Aldin also explained to us, school administrator, and to the players that helping in this program will also be beneficial for them. It will help increase their sense of leadership, will cement their mental mastery of the basics of Basketball and will be very helpful in preparing them to be coaches also when they retire from Basketball.

Moreover, the players will also grow in values because they will learn how to share their talents to the younger ones. They will realize that Basketball or any sports are not a gem to be enjoyed alone but a treasure to be shared to others.
