From 1941 to 1944, Pope Pius and the Catholic Church were responsible for saving more Jews from Nazi persecution than any other person or institution. Some Israeli scholars estimate that as many as 860,000 European Jews were saved from death through concealment in Church facilities, issuance of fake Baptismal certificates, public appeals and other methods. In one instance, Pius lent the Roman Jewish community part payment of a ransom demanded by the Nazis to save several hundred Roman Jews. Prior to becoming Pope, Pius negotiated a Concordat between the Vatican and Germany, which provided that Jews who had converted to Christianity would not be subject to persecution in Germany as Jews. This provision enabled local priests to save tens of thousands of Jews from deporation by issuing fake Baptism certificates. The World Jewish Congress, American Jewish community, Chief Rabbis of Jerusalem, Rome and Budapest, Golda Meir and many other prominent Jewish representatives praised Pius for his relief efforts and public denunciation of racial persecution. THE MYTH OF HITLER POPE
In 1999, John Cornwell's Hitler's Pope criticized Pius for not doing enough, or speaking out enough, against the Holocaust. Cornwell argued that Pius's entire career as the nuncio to Germany, cardinal secretary of state, and pope was characterized by a desire to increase and centralize the power of the Papacy, and that he subordinated opposition to the Nazis to that goal. He further argued that Pius was anti-Semitic and that this stance prevented him from caring about the European Jews.[211]
Cornwell's work was the first to have access to testimonies from Pius's beatification process as well as to many documents from Pacelli's nunciature which had just been opened under the seventy-five year rule by the Vatican State Secretary archives.[212] Cornwell's work has received much praise and criticism. Much praise of Cornwell centered around his disputed claim that he was a practising Catholic who had attempted to absolve Pius with his work.[213] While works such as Susan Zuccotti's Under His Very Windows: The Vatican and the Holocaust in Italy (2000) and Michael Phayer's The Catholic Church and the Holocaust, 1930–1965 (2000) are critical of both Cornwell and Pius XII, Ronald J. Rychlak's Hitler, the War and the Pope is critical as well but defends Pius XII in light of his access to most recent documents.[214] Cornwell's scholarship has been criticized. For example, Kenneth L. Woodward stated in his review in Newsweek that "errors of fact and ignorance of context appear on almost every page."[215] Five years after the publication of Hitler's Pope, Cornwell stated: "I would now argue, in the light of the debates and evidence following Hitler's Pope, that Pius XII had so little scope of action that it is impossible to judge the motives for his silence during the war, while Rome was under the heel of Mussolini and later occupied by Germany".[216][217][218]
Most recently, Rabbi David Dalin's The Myth of Hitler's Pope argues that critics of Pius are liberal Catholics and ex-Catholics who "exploit the tragedy of the Jewish people during the Holocaust to foster their own political agenda of forcing changes on the Catholic Church today" and that Pius XII was actually responsible for saving the lives of many thousands of Jews.[219]

You are sadly mistaken if you believe that the monsters that Pius XII supposedly "saved" whatever number of Jews from were aliens, pagans or atheists. At the time the Third Reich 33% of Germans identified themselves as Catholics and 66% as Protestants. I show at

And many of those who actually carried out their orders to torture and murder millions of innocent Jews (AND fellow Christians and Catholics) were "faithful Catholics".

In fact, it is recorded that due to that heated exchange you decided to edit your website. You removed your self-created lies.
I am under impression that you are a Protestant pastor because you call yourself Reverend. Well perhaps you should start looking at your figure above: At the time the Third Reich 33% of Germans identified themselves as Catholics and 66% as Protestants. Imagine, 66% of Third Reich are Protestants while only 33% were Catholics. Even your numbers represents the 666 of the Devil. The Catholics were only 33% and we were able to save Jews according to the testimonies and documents made by Jews. While the Protestant counterparts did almost nothing at all.
Those who tortured the Jews were mostly Faithful Protestants and some 'unfaithful Catholics' because our Popes officially rejected the Nazi ideology and officially commanded that the Jews must be saved.
Well, I better leave you with TRIBUNUS, he can handle you much better than I do. He practically demolished your claims and your non-credible yet venomous scholarship.

That Liberator_Rev is making a living by maligning our Church and Pope Pius XII which was unanimously respected by both Jewish and Protestants alike during his lifetiwme. Despite the fact that he has been found lying the guy has shamelessly continued his brazen lies.

ReplyDeleteThe Catholic Church worked hard to save the Jews and we denounced Nazism as an ideology. Pope Pius XII was careful, of course, because Hitler is a mad man and he can killed millions of Catholics if he is further provoked. That is PRUDENCE. But, he did all he can to save Jews. He did it secretly, of course, because doing so in broad daylight means loosing not only your neck but your whole being in a fiery furnace.
Even if Pius XII was able to save only one or few Jews he is worthy of our gratitude. But he saved more or less a million. Thus, the Jewish leaders of his time praises him and only the pretenders are destroying his reputation now.
