Once again the Filipino people were teary eyed this today after the 5 hour long transfer of the body of the late President Cory Aquino from La Salle, Greenhills in the City of San Juan to the historic Manila Cathedral.
For the last time the Pres. Cory passed through the Avenues of Metro Manila where she previously rallied the people to depose a dictator, to overthrow a corrupt head of state, to prevent sacrilege of the Constitution and many other struggles for the same of Freedom, Democracy and Well-Being of the Nation.
The President's Cortege passed through EDSA or Epifanio de los Santos Avenue the site of the historic People Power 1 and 2 which she led with the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, the prophet of the nation. People filled the streets to wave, to shout 'I love you!' and to flash the L or the Laban Sign, the hand-sign she and her husband used against the Dictorship during political campaign. But, the most touching of all happened in Ayala Avenue in Makati City, the commercial center of the country, where thousands and thousands of people filled the large streets shouting 'Cory, Cory, Cory...' again and again as if a mantra.
The major streets of Metro Manila burst with people expressing love and gratitude to the reluctant housewife who became President through the force of People's Insistence. And she delivered. These days, the grateful nation braved the rains and the heat to honor the saintly politician who was never intoxicated by power in a power hungry Philippine Politics.
The people shouted her name with the melancholy of a lover who is loosing the object of affection but with happiness for having such a chaste and virginal and so graceful a lady who was never seen shouting at or insulting anyone whether in public or private. They clothed themselves with yellow shirts, put yellow ribbons on their clothes, sung the theme songs of the People Power Revolution [Magkaisa and han again and again. They decorated the streets and cars and windows with yellow ribbons and rained yellow confetti's on her casket.
Once again, People Power is alive in the Philippines. The Heroes of People Power together with their children went out on the streets again to salute the Maiden of Philippine Democracy.
Following the example of her husband who was not given an honorable burial by the Marcos Dictatorship, Cory's coffin was put on top of a ten-wheeler truck covered with white and yellow flowers. She doesn't need the state funeral reserve for the political leaders. The people gave her the best state honor, the living manifestation and spontaneous adulation of the nation. And when she reached the corner of Ayala Avenue where the statue of her husband is proudly standing, the casket and the convoy stopped. A Hail Mary was recited by all because both husband [the martyred Senator Ninoy Aquino] and wife [Pres. Cory] were both great Marian devotees. Then Bayan Ko was sung with such fervor as if the people are reflecting on each word. With tears on their eyes they flashed their hands with Laban signs.
IN LIFE AND IN DEATH YOU ARE NOT ALONE, MRS. PRESIDENT. YOU WERE AN EXEMPLAR OF VIRTUES AND HOW YOU ARE SHINING IN OUR HEARTS FOR ALL ETERNITY. Cory Hindi Ka Nag-iisa!

Dahil gusto ko din pong makita si Tita Cory kahit for the first and the last time man lang..
Noon at ngayon..
May the soul of Former President Corazon Aquino finally rest in peace.. and may she finally find everlasting happiness in the welcoming arms of our Almighty Father in the heaven above..
Just like SamMy, I am so blest to have lived during Cory's presidency. I can attest to her deep faith, a saintly politician indeed.
ReplyDeleteMay she rest in peace. If God permits, pray for us Cory.
Dear Sammy and Wakay,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for sharing your thoughts and experience with us about our late Mother of Democracy.
Sammy, most probably the reason why you were deeply affected by the death of our beloved Pres. Cory despite the fact that you were a post EDSA baby is due to the fact that you so love our country. Most probably you have a deeper sense of history and a greater appreciation of the contributions of our national heroes so that you can easily relate to the meaning and symbols that the late President personified during her lifetime.
Just like you Wakay, I too is so grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to witness and live during the term of office of the late President. I am so proud because our entire Family really supported her against the Marcos Dictatorship and continue supporting her during her presidency and still went on respecting and loving here as Citizen Cory after her retirement from public office.
TITA CORY IS A BLESSING TO OUR COUNTRY AND TO THE WORLD.
Thanks for sharing.....
