PRAYER OF THE ROSARY: THE FATIMA PRAYER by Atty. Marwil Llasos

Our Lady appeared at Fatima before the 3 Children: Lucia, Francisca and Jacinto. Francisca and Jacinto are now declared "Blessed". They only need a miracle to be canonized as Saints of the Catholic Church.

It is now common to pray the O, My Jesus Prayer after every decade of the Rosary. In her apparition at Fatima, the Blessed Virgin Mary who identified herself as the Lady of the Holy Rosary, taught the young seers Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta the prayer:
"O, my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls into heaven, especially those who need most of your mercy."
********
This prayer taught by our Blessed Mother is very Biblical.
O, my Jesus” reveals the soul’s intimacy with Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.
Save us from the fires of hell” recognizes the existence of hell and calls on Jesus our Savior to save us from eternal damnation in hell.
Lead all souls to heaven” asks Jesus to lead us all into the “promised land,” the New Jerusalem in heaven because we believe that indeed “it is God’s will for all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Tim. 2:4).
Especially those who need most of your mercy” proclaims Jesus as our merciful Savior and asks Him to seek out the lost sheep.

  1. The Fatima prayers is the most common ejaculatory prayer after the Gloria Patri. This is due to the spread of the Fatima apparition. However, before the Fatima apparition. The ejaculatory prayer "O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. Mary, Mother of grace,
Mother of mercy, Shield me from the enemy
And receive me at the hour of my death" is the commonly used. At this present, this is commonly used in the old Carmelite monasteries situated in Spain.

  3. The Fatima Prayer, while most commonly said after the Gloria, is actually an optional prayer. Religious groups add their own prayers based on their spirituality/devotions.

For instance, for members of the Militia of the Immaculata founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe say an additional prayer: O MARY CONCEIVED WITHOUT SIN, PRAY FOR US WHO HAVE RECOURSED TO THEE, AND FOR ALL WHO DO NOT HAVE RECOURSED TO THEE ESPECIALLY FOR THE ENEMIES OF THE HOLY CHURCH AND THOSE RECOMMENDED TO THEE." I say this prayer after the Fatima prayer.

Dominicans customarily pray the SUB TUUM PRAESIDIUM (We fly to thy patronage...) PRAYER after each decade.

The Rosary, while already a rich and enriching prayer, can still be further enriched by additional prayers based on our devotion.
