Stations of the Cross in Wood Carving at San Pablo Seminary Chapel, Baguio City

Jesus was Sentenced to Die by Pontius Pilate

One of the most beautiful thing I found out during our stay in San Pablo Seminary of Baguio City wherein our team of Catholic Apologists from Defensores Fidei Foundation gave an Apologetic Seminar to its seminarians was the artistic beauty of its works of arts especially in its Chapel.

Jesus Carried His Cross
Baguio City is famous as The City of Pines and is as equally known for its excellent artistry in wood carvings. That is why it was not a surprise when I saw these wood carvings depicting the Stations of the Cross or the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus Falls the First Time
The wood carvings are not so large, they are regular sizes and the style is quite simple but near them they have a special kind of attraction that invites the heart to reflect on the Sufferings and Death of the Lord Jesus for our Salvation. They are powerful reminders of the Divine Mercy and of the Holy Sacrifice of Jesus by which we were cleansed of our sins.

Jesus Meets His Sorrowing Mother
It appears to me that these Sacred Arts are quite old olready because the ending is still that of the Entombment of the Lord and not the Resurrection as commonly practiced nowadays. Unfortunately, I was not able to ask Fr. Florito, the rector about it because I took these shots few minutes before we left back for Manila.
