Because it was not yet the appropriate time. The Divine Plan of Salvation was not yet completed. It was completed with the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Lord. Also, the Holy Spirit was not yet sent forth by the Father to lead the Church into the fullness of Truth.
John 14:26 "But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you."
The same case was present during the Old Testament. The prophets already prophesied and they knew of the coming of the Messiah but they only have vague knowledge of the Messiah, His proper Name, His Mother and His manner of coming to earth.These truths were revealed by God, says St. Paul, in the 'Fullness of Time'... in the most appropriate time:
Galatians 4:4 "But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman..."
Prior to the Resurrection the Apostles' knowledge of the Faith was not yet complete. And before the Descent of the Holy Spirit during Pentecost the spiritual formation of the Apostles were still partial... they were not yet fully empowered by the Spirit of God. They were still aftraid and unsure of themselves.
But after the Resurrection and the Descent of the Holy Spirit the Apostles were inspired to proclaim the Faith and declare it to all people [cf. Acts 2]. Because the Plan of Salvation has been completed already. Without the Crucifixion and Resurrection the early miracles are bereft of their deeper meaning because they are all preparations for these summit of Redemption; without the full presence of the Holy Spirit the Apostles were lacking of Wisdom and Knowledge and Fortitude to fully explain the Truth of the Gospel.

Farher Abe, bakit sa lahat ng mga christian religions ay sa catholic church lang po may stigmata? may nakausap akong isang biblista na ang mga katoliko ay parang mga aswang kasi iniinom daw ang dugo ni Kristo at kinakain ang kanyang katawan sa celebration ng misa.
