Fr. Abe,nabasa ko po itong text of the Church's sentence against Galileo:

"Whereas you, Galileo, son of the late Vincenzio Galilei, of Florence, aged seventy years, were denounced in 1615, to this Holy Office, for holding as true a false doctrine taught by many, namely, that the sun is immovable in the center of the world, and that the earth moves, and also with a diurnal motion; also, for having pupils whom you instructed in the same opinions; [...] also, for answering the objections which were continually produced from the Holy Scriptures, by glozing the said Scriptures according to your own meaning; and whereas thereupon was produced the copy of a writing, in form of a letter professedly written by you to a person formerly your pupil, in which, following the hypothesis of Copernicus, you include several propositions contrary to the true sense and authority of the Holy Scriptures; therefore (this Holy Tribunal being desirous of providing against the disorder and mischief which were thence proceeding and increasing to the detriment of the Holy Faith) by the desire of his Holiness and the Most Emminent Lords, Cardinals of this supreme and universal Inquisition, the two propositions of the stability of the sun, and the motion of the earth, were qualified by the Theological Qualifiers as follows:

1. The proposition that the sun is in the center of the world and immovable from its place is absurd, philosophically false, and formally heretical; because it is expressly contrary to Holy Scriptures.

2. The proposition that the earth is not the center of the world, nor immovable, but that it moves, and also with a diurnal action, is also absurd, philosophically false, and, theologically considered, at least erroneous in faith.

Therefore . . . , invoking the most holy name of our Lord Jesus Christ and of His Most Glorious Mother Mary, We pronounce this Our final sentence: We pronounce, judge, and declare, that you, the said Galileo . . . have rendered yourself vehemently suspected by this Holy Office of heresy, that is, of having believed and held the doctrine (which is false and contrary to the Holy and Divine Scriptures) that the sun is the center of the world, and that it does not move from east to west, and that the earth does move, and is not the center of the world; also, that an opinion can be held and supported as probable, after it has been declared and finally decreed contrary to the Holy Scripture, and, consequently, that you have incurred all the censures and penalties enjoined and promulgated in the sacred canons and other general and particular constituents against delinquents of this description. From which it is Our pleasure that you be absolved, provided that with a sincere heart and unfeigned faith, in Our presence, you abjure, curse, and detest, the said error and heresies, and every other error and heresy contrary to the Catholic and Apostolic Church of Rome."

May dalawanh katanungan lang po ako:

1. Anu po bang part ng Holy Scripture yung sinasabi nilang nilabag ni Galileo?

2.Kapag nagturo po ba kayo ng isang bagay kahit hindi about religious thing pero iba po sa teachings ng Church, tulad nung pagturo ni Galileo sa Heliocentric Theory, pwede pa rin po ba kayong ma-consider na heretic?

Ang Galileo controversy Brother ay hindi FAITH vs. SCIENCE na siyang kadalasang ginagamit ngayon ng mga Ateista. Ito ay labanan ng COPERNICAN SYSTEM vs. ARISTOTELIAN SYSTEM.

Noong panahon na iyon ang opinyon ng mga tao ay ang Earth ang centro ng Universe at ang araw ang siyang umiikot sa Earth. Ang opinyon na ito ay matagal na pinaniwalaan ng mga tao hanggang sa dumating si Nicholas Copernicus, isang Catolicong scientist na nagturo ng Heliocentrism - ang araw ay naka-steady at ang daigdig ang umiikot sa kanya. Subalit noong panahong iyon ay hindi kinondena ng Simbahan si Copernicus. Sapagkat iprinesenta nya ang kanyang idea bilang isang Theory.

Si Galileo ay napagalitan at kinondena ng Holy Inquisition sapagkat kanyang sinabi na mali ang Biblia sa pagsasabing ang araw ay gumagalaw. Ito ang mga talatang naging controversial:

Ang desisyon ng mga panel of experts na Ikondena si Galileo ay hindi bunga ng pagsalansang sa Sciencia. Kundi sa marubdob na pagtatanggol sa INERRANCY NG SALITA NG DIOS. Ito ang doctrinang nagsasabi na walang mali sa Biblia.

Si Galileo ay lumagpas sa limitasyon niya bilang scientist. Pati ang Banal na Kasulatan ay kanyang hinusgahan. Dahil dito ay kinondena siya ng Holy Inquisiton.

Ipinakikita dyan na si Galileo ay isang Catholic scientist na kaibigan pa ng Santo Papa at ng mga Cardinal noong panahon niya.

Hindi siya pinagagalitan at kinokondena hanggang hindi niya nilalabag ang pananampalataya ng Cristianismo. Lagi nating tatandaan na ang mga Catolico at Protestante at maging mga ADD, INC at iba pa ay pawang nagtuturo na walang mali sa Biblia. Ito ay ating maipapaliwanag sa pamamagitan ng tamang pagsusuri ng Banal na Kasulatan.

Ang mga talatang nabanggit sa taas at pinagtalunan ni Galileo at ng mga nag-akusa sa kanya ay bunga lamang ng maling interpretasyon. Ang mga Bible Verses na iyon ay hindi scientific statements kundi mga simpleng pagpapahayag ng karaniwang observations ng tao. Tulad ng pananalitang: SUNRISE, SUNSET. Ang araw ay hindi gumagalaw subalit may terms tayong Sunrise, Sunset para ipahayag ang katotohanang sumasapit ang gabi at dumarating ang umaga. Hindi iyan nagtuturo ng scientific claim na ang araw ay gumagalaw. Isinaad lamang ng Biblia ang pangkaraniwang nakikita ng tao sa ordinariong buhay: ANG ARAW AY SUMISIKAT AT LUMULUBOG.

Hindi tutoong si Galileo ay tinorture. Hindi rin siya ikinulong sa bilangguan na may tanikala at kadena. Siya ay pinatira sa loob ng kanyang Mansion at malayang makipag-usap at magsulat ng aklat. Sa katunayan ay napaka-bait ng pagtratong binigay sa kanya. Si Galileo ay namatay na isang tapat na Catolico. Kabilang siya sa mga ipinagmamalaking mga Scientists ng Catholic Church.

Hindi sinang-ayunan si Galileo hinggil sa Heliocentrism kasi ang turong iyon ay hindi pa proven nuon... Hindi pa napapatunayang tunay ayon sa masusing pag-aaral ng iba't-ibang dalubhasa.

Hindi masama kung nagkamali ang Santa Iglesia hinggil sa Heliocentrism dahil hindi naman sakop ng expertise ng Iglesia ang sciencia. Subalit nananatili ang position ng Iglesia Catolica na walang mali sa Banal na Kasulatan.

Kapag nagturo ka ng isang bagay na taliwas sa Faith and Morals ng Santa Iglesia ay maaari kang maideclarang heretic.

Ngunit kung magtuturo ka ng isang Scientific Idea o Theory, hindi siempre. Liban na lang kung ito ay lumalabag o sumasalungat sa faith. Halimbawa: "After examining these stones, I hereby declare than man has no soul." Ayan mali na yan. Pwede kang maideclarang heretico kasi nasa consistent teaching ng Church na ang tao ay may katawan at kaluluwa.

Hindi basta basta nagkokondena ang ating Iglesia. Kasi we have also a lot of scientists at kadalasan hawak ng Church ang best of the best Educational and Scientific centers. Kaya ang Santa Iglesia ay nagagabayan ng karunungan hindi lamang ukol sa pananampalataya kundi pati sa sciencia na rin.

Nang dumating ang panahon na ang Theory ni Galileo ay kinumpirma ng iba pang mga Scientists at napatunayang valid at tutuo, ang Santa Iglesia ay kumilala nito. Hinayaan niyang maituro ito sa kanyang mga paaralan.

Hindi anti-science ang Catholic Church. Bukas siya sa kaalaman ng Scientia subalit nais din ng Simbahan na ipaalala sa mga scientist na may limitasyon din ang Scientia. Ito ay dapat ding liwanagan ng pananampalataya na nagmumula sa Salita ng Dios. Dahil ito ay ginagamit ngayon ng mga kaaway ng Santa Iglesia para masamain tayong mga Catolico at palabasing Anti-Science mas lalong pinag-igting ng Santa Iglesia ang kanyang contribution sa Sciencia. At bilang pagpapahayag ng pagpapakumbaba, ang Santo Papa ay humingi ng kapatawaran sa pagkakamali ng ilang humawak sa kasong ito, kung sila man ay nagkamali sa ganang kanilang sarili.

Karamihang gumagamit ng issue na ito laban sa atin ay mga Ateista at Agnostico. Gayon din ang mga nakikisawsaw mula sa ibang relihiyon.
