Dear Jeremiah,

Sorry for a very late reply. I had debates and exchanges with Born Agan Pastors recently and some heretics. Here is your question:

[father abe bible history naman pwede?]

PWEDE SIEMPRE.

[hehe pano ba talaga nag simula ang canonization of scriptures?]

You must be aware already that JESUS DIDN'T ORDER HIS DISCIPLES TO WRITE AND DIDN'T ORDER THEM TO GATHER THEIR WRITINGS INTO A BOOK. The Apostles on their part preached and taught orally until they started writing for Pastoral and Kerygmatic reasons. They all died without gathering and compiling their writings into a single book.

Later, the Bishops and theologians of the Catholic Church started classifying and dividing the Books of the Bible for better understanding of the people.

The term Old Testament and New Testament are found in 2 Corinthians 3:6 and 2 Corinthians 3:14.

2 Cor 3:6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of a NEW COVENANT; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

2 Cor 3:14 but their minds were hardened: for until this very day at the reading of the OLD COVENANT the same veil remaineth unlifted; which veil is done away in Christ.

But, St. Paul didn't use those terms for the Divisions of the Books of the Bible. The term Old and New Testament were first applied in the Division of Books by St. Ireneus, Bishop of Lyons [c. 115-202], and he was followed by Catholic theologians and apologists Tertulian of Carthage [c. 160-230] and Origen of Alexandria [c. 185-255].

The Canonization of Sacred Scriptures officially and formally started when POPE ST. DAMASUS I [304-384AD] ordered St. Jerome, Priest and Doctor of the Church who was the best Bible scholar of that time, to translate all Sacred Scriptures into one language from Hebrew and Greek [with small portions in Aramaic]. The new translation was in Latin which was the dominant language in the Roman Empire then.

One of the problems met by St. Jerome was the official lists of books to be included because there were some books that were included by some yet rejected by the other local churches. So the Pope called for a special Council in Rome. The Catholic Bishops gathered in the COUNCIL OF ROME in 374AD under the leadership of Pope St. Damasus and they unanimously decreed the 73 Books of the Catholic Bible. It was once again upheld in the COUNCIL OF HIPPO [393AD] and was further affirmed by the COUNCIL OF CARTHAGE [397AD]. Thus, those who codified and canonized the Books of the Bible were the Bishops of the Catholic Church of the 4th Centuuries.

Because of this, St. Jerome was properly guided and was able to finished the task of translation in 405AD. The finished text was called LATINA VULGATA or in English THE VULGATE. It was the first complete Bible ever and the first to be compiled in one, common language. Thus, the term Old Testament and New Testament instead of Covenant because Covenant is Testamentum in Latin.

St. John Chrysostom, Bishop of Constantinople [c. 347-407], is the first person who called the compiled books "BIBLIA" referring to both Old and New Testament [cf. Bruce: The Canon of Scripture, p. 214/ Metzger: The Canon of the New Testament, p. 214. He quoted Suicer for the source]

More than a thousand years later, a heretic with the name of Martin Luther, founded Protestantism. As a manifestation of his rejection of the Authority of the Catholic Church he also rejected the Canon of the Bible of the Church. But the COUNCIL OF TRENT [1546] condemned Luther and affirmed the 73 Books Canon of the Bible declared by the Catholic Church.

Hope you can enlighten me with this Father.
    Thanks!

  4. Fr. Abe, The Canon of the Catholic Bible was determined by a Council, but very different from the Protestant, only Luther determined the canon of their Bible from 73, he made it into 66, the number that they afraid of.

Other twister of truth , said that, why we translated it into Latin, is to hide the truth from the people. ha ha ha, so funny ( deep sigh)

  6. The no. 66 is actually connected with 666. Ha, ha, ha... our 7 and 3 or 73 are both sacred number in the Bible. 7 = the 7 Spirit of God in the book of Revelation while 3 refers to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

It was translated in Latin because it was the language of the people of those times.

  8. [Father may tanong po ako. Ayon po sa dictionary, ang medical definition ng virginity ay,"the classic finding in female virginity is an intact hymen."]

WELL, PRACTICALLY SPEAKING WHEN WE SPEAK OF VIRGIN WE MEAN A WOMAN WHOSE BODY WAS NEVER VIOLATED BY ANY MAN SEXUALLY. OF COURSE, IT INCLUDES THE INTACT HYMEN.

HAVE SOME RESPECT OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY. SHE IS THE MOTHER OF THE LORD JESUS. WHAT WILL YOU FEEL IF I WILL TALK HERE ABOUT THE HYMEN OF YOUR SISTER OR MOTHER OR DAUGHTER.

THAT ISSUE IS ALREADY SETTLED BY THE CHURCH WHEN SHE DECLARED MARY EVER-VIRGIN: BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE BIRTH OF JESUS.

PLEASE BE A GENTLEMAN TO OUR LADY.

[Paano po nanatiling virgin si Mary kung noong ipinanganak si Jesus e lumabas siya sa "daanan" ni Maria?]

BY THE POWER OF GOD. JESUS ENTERED THE WOMB OF MARY WITHOUT DESTROYING HER VIRGINITY:

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold, a VIRGIN shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

THE PREGNANCY OF THE VIRGIN IS A DIVINE SIGN. IT IS CAUSED BY DIVINE INTERCESSION IN THE PHYSICAL NATURE OF MARY... IT WAS AN EXERCISE OF DIVINE POWER THROUGH WHICH MARY BECAME A VIRGIN AND PREGNANT AT THE SAME TIME. SHE CONCEIVED AS A VIRGIN.

THIS TRUTH IS FURTHER HIGHLIGHTED BY THE ANGEL GABRIEL DURING HIS ANNUNCIATION TO MARY:

Luke 1:26-27 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a VIRGIN betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and THE VIRGIN’s name was Mary.

THE BIBLE THROUGH THE LUCAN NARRATIVE REPEATEDLY STRESSES THAT MARY IS 'A VIRGIN' AND 'THE VIRGIN'. SO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ALSO STRESS THAT TRUTH OF FAITH: 'THE VIRGIN MARY'.

  9. WHEN MARY ASK FOR A REASON HOW SHE WILL BECOME PREGNANT WITH THE LORD JESUS DESPITE THE FACT THAT SHE HAS NO RELATION WITH A MAN, THIS WAS THE ANGEL'S EXPLANATION:

Luke 1:34 Mary said to the angel, "I am a VIRGIN. How, then, can this be?" [Good News Bible]

MARY IS VIRGIN AS SHE HERSELF CLAIMED AND THE PROPHETS AND THE APOSTLES UNANIMOUSLY ATTEST TO THAT.

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God's power will rest upon you. For this reason the holy child will be called the Son of God.

SO, THE INCARNATION AND THE NATIVITY OF JESUS SHALL BE CAUSED NOT BY ANY FRICTION OF MATTER ON THE HYMEN BUT BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. SINCE THE HOLY SPIRIT IS NON-MATERIAL... IT IS A SPIRIT [NON-CORPOREAL, NON-PHYSICAL BEING] SO DEFINITELY THE HYMEN CANNOT BE BROKEN LIKE THE WIND PASSING THROUGH A WALL WITHOUT BREAKING IT OR A SUNRAYS PASSING THROUGH THE GLASS WITHOUT MAKING A HOLE ON IT.

Luke 1:36-37 Remember your relative Elizabeth. It is said that she cannot have children, but she herself is now six months pregnant, even though she is very old. FOR THERE IS NOTHING THAT GOD CANNOT DO."

AGAIN, THE ANGEL CATEGORICALLY EXPLAINED THAT THE SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR HUMAN CAPABILITY IS POSSIBLE AND WAS TURNED INTO A REALITY BECAUSE GOD CAN DO THE IMPOSSIBLE. IT WAS AN ACT OF GOD'S ALMIGHTY POWER INDEED.

FOR THAT REASON, MATTHEW PROCLAIMED THAT THE PROPHECY HAD BEEN FULFILLED: MARY CONCEIVED AS A VIRGIN AND GAVE BIRTH AS A VIRGIN ALSO,

Matthew 1:22-23 Now all this happened in order to make come true what the Lord had said through the prophet, "A VIRGIN will become pregnant and have a son, and he will be called Immanuel" (which means, "God is with us").

SHE WAS THE VIRGIN WHO BECAME PREGNANT AND THE SAME VIRGIN WHO DELIVERED A SON.

JESUS ENTERED WITHOUT BREAKING HER VIRGINITY AND HE CAME OUT WITHOUT BREAKING HER VIRGINITY.

YOU SHOULD ALSO CONSIDER THAT THE CONCEPT OF A SEXUALLY VIRGIN WOMAN BUT WITH BROKEN HYMEN IS MOSTLY A MODERN DAY CONCERN. OUR OLD FOLKS THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO HAVE A VERY CLEAR CONCEPT OF VIRGINITY: A PERSON WHOSE BODY WAS NEVER VIOLATED, INTACT, PURE... IT WAS PHYSICAL INTEGRITY, MORAL INTEGRITY AND SPIRITUAL INTEGRITY.

[Hope you can enlighten me with this Father.
    Thanks!]

    WELCOME.
