Ang Orthodox Church o ang tinatawag na Eastern Churches ay ang mga Iglesiang nasa Silangan at dating mga dating kasapi ng Iglesia Catolica mula nong First Century of Christianity hanggang nagkaroon ng Great Schism of 1054 kung saan sila ay tumiwalag sa atin. Kaya hindi sila in Communion with Rome and with the Pope, the Successor of Peter.
Ang mga ito ay ang Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Romanian Orthodox, Serbian Orthodox, Syro-Malabar Orthodox, etc.
Kung mapapansin mo para rin silang Protestante na hiwa-hiwalay. Kaya lang hindi by group o by fellowship kundi by National Identity. Sa halip na Santo Papa ay mga particular na Patriarca ng bawat church ang lider nila. Subalit ang mga Patriarca na ito ay walang authority na tulad ng ating Santo Papa.
Dahil apostolic din ang pinagmulan ng kanilang faith, halos parehong pareho ang pananampalataya natin at ang mga Sacramento. Pareho nating tinatanggap ang validity ng mga Sacramento ng bawat isa. At kasalukuyang nag-uusap ang mga opisyales natin at ng mga Orthodox upang muling maibalik ang ganap na pag-iisa ng Catholic at Orthodox Churches.

Parehong tama at makahulugan ang Sign of the Cross ng Catholics at ng mga Orthodox.
Sa Roman Catholics ang movement natin for the Holy Spirit ay from left to right. Ang left ay simbolo ng kasamaan, kasalanan, paganismo at kamatayan na ating iniwan nang tayo ay sumunod kay Cristo patungo sa landas ng Buhay, Kabutihan, Paglilinis ng Kasalanan at tunay na Pananampalataya na sinisimbolo ng Kanang bahagi ng balikat natin. From Evil to God, from Satan to God, from Sin to Salvation, from death to Life.
Ang mga Orthodox naman ay ginagamit ang kanilang tatlong pangunahing daliri mula sa Index, pointing at middle finger para makabuo ng korteng puso mula sa tatlong daliri. Ito ay nagpapahayag ng Pagiging Isa sa Substantia ng Dios subalit may tatlong Persona.
Ang movement naman nila ay from right to the left. Ito ay sumisimbolo sa paglalakbay ng faithful form darkness to the light [The East]. Christ is the Easter of our Life kaya the way points to the East. Pinakikita nito si Cristo bilang Sun of our Life. Siya ang Daystar ng ating kaluluwa. Kaya from West [Right] to East [Left].
Parehong maganda ang explanation nila at pareho nating tanggap na tama ito. Both are apostolic in origin and very ancient in the history of the Church.

Why does the Second Vatican Council use the term “Church” in reference to the oriental Churches separated from full communion with the Catholic Church?
Answer:
The Council wanted to adopt the traditional use of the term. “Because these Churches, although separated, have true sacraments and above all – because of the apostolic succession – the priesthood and the Eucharist, by means of which they remain linked to us by very close bonds”, they merit the title of “particular or local Churches”, and are called sister Churches of the particular Catholic Churches.
“It is through the celebration of the Eucharist of the Lord in each of these Churches that the Church of God is built up and grows in stature”. However, since communion with the Catholic Church, the visible head of which is the Bishop of Rome and the Successor of Peter, is not some external complement to a particular Church but rather one of its internal constitutive principles, these venerable Christian communities lack something in their condition as particular churches.
On the other hand, because of the division between Christians, the fullness of universality, which is proper to the Church governed by the Successor of Peter and the Bishops in communion with him, is not fully realized in history.
