DO WE BELIEVE IN FRIDAY THE 13TH?

ADORATION OF THE HOLY TRINITY. Friday is Sacred for us Catholics because the Lord Jesus died on the Cross on Friday. Thus, it is the day dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Divine Mercy.

Good day Fr.Abe. Im not sure if I successfully sent my query re: Friday The 13th. When I sent a text message to a friend informing her of the Love of God and that everyday is a day created by God, thus, there's no truth to fear Friday the 13th. Her reply is that it's a Catholic Pope who started the fear when he allegedly ordered a gruesome murder to someone. May you give light as to the truth about the origin of this useless fear on Friday the 13th? God bless.

Dear Bro. A.,

I think I remember now. I saw that question. I think I failed to post it and it is still in my file of unanswered questions. I am getting so many these days. My apology.

Here is my response:

[Friday The 13th.]

FRIDAY IS A SACRED DAY FOR CATHOLICS BECAUSE IT IS THE DAY OF REDEMPTION AND ATONEMENT OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SALVATION. THUS, IT IS NOT TRUE THAT FRIDAY IS NEGATIVE FOR US. ACTUALLY FRIDAY IS THE DAY OF THE DIVINE MERCY AND THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS.

THUS, IT IS BEYOND OUR WILDEST DREAMS THAT FRIDAY CAN BE GIVEN A NEGATIVE SIGNIFICANCE BY OUR CHURCH. NO WAY AND NEVER WILL IT BE.

THERE IS ALSO NOTHING NEGATIVE ON THE NUMBER 13. BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT IT REFERS TO THE LORD JESUS AND THE TWELVE APOSTLES. DURING HIS STAY HERE ON EARTH ESPECIALLY DURING HIS MINISTRY JESUS ROAMED AROUND THE HOLY LAND WITH THE 12 APOSTLES. THUS 1 + 12 SHOWS THE COMPOSITION OF THE NEW KINGDOM OF GOD: THE LORD AND HIS APOSTLES - THE NEW PATRIARCHS OF THE RE-ESTABLISHED KINGDOM OF ISRAEL.

[When I sent a text message to a friend informing her of the Love of God and that everyday is a day created by God, thus, there's no truth to fear Friday the 13th.]

VERY GOOD. YOUR EXPLANATION IS CORRECT AND VERY GOOD. IN FACT, THE LORD GOD CREATED EVERYTHING FROM DAY 1 TO DAY 6 AND RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY. SO DAY 1 IS HOLY BECAUSE IT IS THE START OF CREATION AND DAY 7 IS HOLY BECAUSE IT IS THE DAY OF REST. DAY 1 IS ALSO HOLY BECAUSE THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD OCCURRED ON DAY ONE - SUNDAY.

NO. 1 IS THE NUMBER OF THE ONE AND ONLY GOD.

3 IS THE NUMBER OF THE HOLY TRINITY, THE THREE DIVINE PERSONS: FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT.

SO 1+3 OR 13 IS ALSO A HOLY NUMBER.

[Her reply is that it's a Catholic Pope who started the fear when he allegedly ordered a gruesome murder to someone.]

THIS IS NOT TRUE. I THINK YOUR FRIEND IS IGNORANT OF CATHOLIC HISTORY AND ALSO OF THE HISTORY OF FRIDAY 13TH SUPERSTITION. ACTUALLY THIS SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEF IS VERY NEW. IT EMERGED ONLY DURING THE 19TH CENTURY. MOST PROBABLY SHE GOT THAT CLAIM FROM THE JEHOVAH WITNESSES OR SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS WHO ARE FOND OF ATTACKING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND INVENTING LIES AGAINST US.

THERE ARE SOME WHO ARE QUOTING OLD BOOKS BUT THIS IS A QUESTION OF A NEW INVENTION FINDING JUSTIFICATION FROM OLD MATERIALS.

IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE HISTORY OF THIS SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEF CHECK HERE:

YOU SEE BROD, SIMPLE RESEARCH ON THE MATTER WILL PROVE YOUR FRIEND WRONG.

BESIDES, PLEASE DO NOT FORGET THAT FOR US CATHOLICS IT IS SINFUL TO BELIEVE IN SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEFS. SUPERSTITIONS IS SIN AGAINST COMMANDMENT NO. 1 FOR US:

Superstition

2111 Superstition is the deviation of religious feeling and of the practices this feeling imposes. It can even affect the worship we offer the true God, e.g., when one attributes an importance in some way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary. To attribute the efficacy of prayers or of sacramental signs to their mere external performance, apart from the interior dispositions that they demand, is to fall into superstition.[ 41 Cf. Mt 23:16-22.] [CATHECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH #211]

[May you give light as to the truth about the origin of this useless fear on Friday the 13th?]

I HOPE THIS WILL HELP.

[God bless.]

GOD BLESS YOU TOO.

  1. Let us not forget, Father, that Our Lady appeared to the three children at Fatima on the 13th of May, 1917. The third apparition occurred on July 13, 1917, a Friday! So clearly the number "13" does not have any negative meaning as far as Heaven is concerned. In fact, it would seem just the opposite.

  2. O thank you Bro. Richard. As you have shown us the Blessed Virgin Mary also loves Friday and the 13th at that. He, he, he...

  3. What about Friday the 13th as the day the Knights Templar were destroyed, Fr. Abe? Isn't that another origin for the superstition?

  5. NO Bro. Aegis-Judex.

The Friday the 13th superstition is a new invention. It came only during the 19th century while the destruction of the Knights Templar happened during the twilight of the Middle Ages.

It appears to me that those who believe the superstition simply googled Friday the 13th and found that the end of the Templars occured in the date and thus, they used it to support their lunacy. But the people of France, Germany, Spain, Italy didn't believe in Friday the 13th right after the said destruction of an dying Order.

Besides, why treat that date as especial. How about the destruction of Pearl Harbor? The Atomic Bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima? The Tianamen Massacre of students? The Fall of Bataan and Corregidor? The 9-11 Terrorists attack in New York? THESE ARE MORE TERRIBLE AND MORE HISTORICALLY IMPORTANT THAN THE TEMPLARS.

Obviously, the Friday the 13th supporters are desperate in getting historical support for their invention and delusion.
