THE STORY OF ABRAHAM AND LAZARUS IS A PARABLE TOLD BY JESUS. THAT IS WHY IT IS TRUE AND IT CONVEYS THE TRUTH.
THAT PARABLE IS VERY CLEAR. JESUS CATEGORICALLY NARRATED THAT WHEN LAZARUS AND THE RICH MAN DIED THEIR BODIES WERE BURIED BUT THE SOUL ARE ALIVE. THE SOUL OF LAZARUS WAS WITH ABRAHAM WHILE THE SOUL OF THE RICH MAN WAS SUFFERING AND WAS COMMUNICATING WITH ABRAHAM. THE PATRIARCH IN TURN TALKED TO THE RICH MAN.
IT COMPLETELY DESTROYS YOUR POSITION THAT THE DEAD DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING.
THE MORE THE PASSAGE BECOMES SUPPORTIVE OF THE CATHOLIC FAITH. THE BIBLE DOES NOT TEACH THAT SALVATION WILL BE GIVEN 'ONLY' AT THE JUDGMENT DAY AT THE SECOND COMING. THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE JUDGMENT FOR THOSE WHO DIED. IMMEDIATELY, THE LORD REWARDS THE GOOD AND THE EVIL SHALL BE PUNISHED:
Hebrew 9:27 "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment"
RIGHT AFTER DEATH THERE IS JUDGMENT. FOR THAT REASON THE LORD NARRATED THAT RIGHT AFTER DEATH THE SOULS OF LAZARUS AND THE RICH MAN RECEIVED THEIR REWARD AND PUNISHMENT. IT ALSO FITS WHAT JESUS PROMISED THE REPENTANT THIEF: "TODAY YOU SHALL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE" [cf. Luke 23:43].
THE LORD DIDN'T SAY: "TODAY YOU SHALL SLEEP IN DEATH AND YOU WILL NOT KNOW ANYTHING UNTIL JUDGMENT DAY." O NO, NO, NO... THE LORD SAYS "YOU WILL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE". IT MEANS LIKE ABRAHAM HE SHALL BE ALIVE IN PARADISE OR IN HEAVEN WHERE HE WILL ENJOY HAPPINESS, PEACE AND BLESSINGS OF ETERNAL LIFE.
THIS IS FURTHER SUPPORTED BY THE EPISTLE TO THE HEBREWS:
Hebrew 12:22-23 "22But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to THE SPIRITS OF JUST MEN MADE PERFECT"
THE LETTER TO THE HEBREWS WAS WRITTEN BEFORE THE JUDGMENT DAY. YET IT ALREADY SPEAKS OF "THE SPIRITS OF JUST MEN MADE PERFECT". IT MEANS THERE ARE ALREADY SPIRITS OF JUST MEN IN HEAVEN.

ReplyDeleteI have few questions about 1 John 5:7, are you familiar with Johannine comma? In the Douay-Rheims Bible and KJV Bible 1 John 5:7 is
And there are three who give testimony in heaven,
[the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one.]
8 And there are three that give testimony on earth: the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three are one. [Douay-Rheims]
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven,
[the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.]
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. [King James Version]
How come the phrase [the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost. And these three are one.] is missing in majority of the Greek manuscripts except Textus Receptus?
With exemption to DRB and KJV, how come other Bible versions such as NAB, NRSV etc. do not contain those extra words?
Majority of Bible scholars agreed that the extra phrase was a later addition and is not originally part of the ancient greek manuscripts does this violate the Word of God when they added this phrase?
I used the passage 1 Jn.5:7 to justify the dogma of Trinity against INC but I was confronted with the Johannine comma dilemma. Thank you very much Father in advance. God Bless!

ReplyDeleteA “parable” is any fictive illustration in the form of a brief narrative, generally referring to something that might naturally occur, by which spiritual and moral matters might be conveyed. It illustrates the universal truth, it sketches the setting, describes an action, and show the results.
The parable of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:20-31) would like to convey something to us:
1. There is judgement.
(Ecc 12:13) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
(Ecc 12:14) For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
2. Love thy neighbor while live.
(Mar 12:31) And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
3. There is punishment for the evil doer.
(Pro 19:19) A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
It is very clear that when a man died, his soul will be at God’s hand. And will not immediately enter judgment as you presumed.
(Job 12:10) In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.
(Ecc 12:7) Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

The Bible says:
(Joh 6:44) No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Please note, Jesus said that He will raise them “at the last day” and not after they died in flesh.
There is ONE DAY for JUDGEMENT.
(Act 17:31) Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
You, me, all men will be judged on that day, wherein:

You see Mr. Abe, I hope you understand now, what’s the Bible tells about judgment and life after death. I had remember when you said in your one blog that the kingdom of God have not seen yet, and that’s the absolute truth.
(1Co 2:9) But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
And then you used Luke 23:43
(Luk 23:43) And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Bro. Eli taught us that “that when God speaks, it seems its already happened, although it will happened gradually.”
When Lord Jesus told him (thief) “ shalt thou be with me in paradise”, it does not mean that in that very moment Lord Jesus will bring the thief in paradise as you presumed. All of us will wait for the judgment day, the last day.
And about the purgatory, it is really hard to defend a thing that does not exist. Actually I made a comment there but not yet posted.

1. THE IMMEDIATE JUDGMENT, and
2. THE FINAL JUDGMENT
THE PARABLE OF THE RICH MAN REFERS TO IMMEDIATE JUDGMENT AND JOHN 6:44 POINTS TO THE FINAL JUDGMENT. SO WE ARE CORRECT IN BOTH INSTANCE.
BESIDES, THERE IS NOTHING IN THE STATEMENT THAT SAYS 'I WILL RAISE THEM UP ON THE LAST DAY ONLY'. O NO, NO, NO...
EVEN IN THE OLD TESTAMENT THERE IS ALREADY A DECLARATION THAT THE SAINTS ARE IN THE COMPANY OF GOD:
Deuteronomy 33:2-3 "And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them. Yea, he loved the people; all his saints are in thy hand: and they sat down at thy feet; every one shall receive of thy words."
IN v. 3 IT IS STATED THAT THE SAINTS ARE IN THE HAND OF GOD BUT PRIOR TO THAT IN v. 2 THE SAINTS ARE PRESENTED AS COMPANIONS OF THE LORD. THEY ARE IN THE COMPANY OF THE LORD. SO, THEY ARE NOT JUST DUSTING AS YOU ARE CLAIMING BUT THEY ARE ALIVE WITH THE LORD. THEY HAVE BEEN REWARDED BY BEING WITH HIM.
ANOTHER IS THAT ON THE FINAL JUDGMENT THE LORD WILL COME WITH HIS SAINTS ALREADY IN HIS COMPANY:
Jude 1:14-16 (King James Version)
14And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, THE LORD COMETH WITH TEN THOUSANDS OF HIS SAINTS,
15To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

THAT PASSAGE SUPPORTS DEUTERONOMY 33. THE JUST ARE ALREADY REWARDED AND HONORED UPON THEIR DEATH PRIOR TO FINAL JUDGMENT AND THOSE WHO WILL BE JUDGED IN THE FINAL JUDGMENT ARE THOSE WHO ARE STILL ALIVE OR HAVE NOT RECEIVED GOD'S DECISION FOR THEM YET.

THAT PASSAGE ONLY SHOWS THAT THE FINAL JUDGMENT IS ALSO A GENERAL JUDGMENT. IT MEANS THAT THE UNIVERSAL PRONOUNCEMENT OF SALVATION AND DAMNATION WILL BE GIVEN.
IT IS STATED ABOVE THAT THE LORD WILL COME TOGETHER WITH HIS ANGELS. HOWEVER, ST. JUDE CLARIFIES THAT TOGETHER WITH THE ANGELS GOD WILL ALSO RETURN WITH HIS THOUSANDS OF SAINTS. IT MEANS THAT THESE SAINTS HAVE RECEIVED PRIOR JUDGMENT.
BESIDES, THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN SAINTS IN HEAVEN WILL BE GIVEN THE HONOR TO JUDGE THE PRESENT GENERATION:
Luke 11:32 "The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here."

ReplyDeleteThe issue of the Johannine Comma is not a problem for us Catholics because even if it is not considered as a part of the Scriptures it is clearly part of our SACRED TRADITION.
However, for us Catholics that verse is truly part of the Word of God because the Latina Vulgata and the Douay-Rheims contained it. But the NAB and the JB did not because the major Greek manuscripts do not contain them. However, the Truth that the passage contain is TRUE for us Catholics and is apostolic in origin.
Now let me share to you this beautiful study concerning support for the authenticity of the Johannine Comma. It proves beyond any doubt that the verse is part of the SACRED TRADITION OF THE CHURCH:
It is not true that 1 John 5:7 is absent in all pre-l6th century Greek manuscripts and New Testament translations. The text is found in eight extant Greek manuscripts, and five of them are dated before the 16th century (Greek miniscules 88, 221, 429, 629, 636). Furthermore, there is abundant support for 1 John 5:7 from the Latin translations. There are at least 8000 extant Latin manuscripts, and many of them contain 1 John 5:7f; the really important ones being the Old Latin, which church fathers such as Tertullian (AD 155-220) and Cyprian (AD 200-258) used. Now, out of the very few Old Latin manuscripts with the fifth chapter of First John, at least four of them contain the Comma. Since these Latin versions were derived from the Greek New Testament, there is reason to believe that 1 John 5:7 has very early Greek attestation, hitherto lost. There is also reason to believe that Jeromes Latin Vulgate (AD 340-420), which contains the Johannine Comma, was translated from an untampered Greek text he had in his possession and that he regarded the Comma to be a genuine part of First John. Jerome in his Prologue to the Canonical Epistles wrote, "Irresponsible translators left out this testimony [i. e., 1 John 5:7f] in the Greek codices." Edward F. Hills concluded, "It was not trickery that was responsible for the inclusion of the Johannine Comma in the Textus Receptus, but the usage of the Latin speaking church."
