RH bill debates to resume next year - Senator Enrile

MANILA, Philippines - The reproductive health (RH) bill won’t be put to a vote on Wednesday, the last day of session before the Senate goes on a month-long break.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, one of the controversial measure’s opponents, said it won’t be tackled even when session resumes in November because the Senate will be busy tackling the proposed 2012 national budget by then.

“Wala na. Wala nang panahon,” he told reporters.

Enrile said debates on the RH bill will resume next year.

He added that opponents of the bill are not delaying the vote, and only want to ask more questions.

“I am not ready to just deal with this lackadaisically,” Enrile said. “Even if I am chastised, I have to be very careful.”

Enrile stressed his argument during debates that the RH bill is a population control measure disguised as a health program for women.

“Why are you reducing the size of your families if your only purpose is to help the health of the women of this country?” he said.

Because of this, he said the measure will have serious implications once enacted into law.

“If you are going to contract the population, you reach a point in time where you will have less workers, less production, less consumption, less taxpayers to support the government,” Enrile said.

Aside from Enrile, Senators Vicente Sotto III, Ralph Recto, and Lito Lapid have participated in debates on the RH bill.

  1. FR. ABE:

WE COULD HAVE DONE MORE TO DEFEND THE FAITH AGAINST THE RH BILL IF NOT FOR THE SSPX DEMONS WHO CONSUMED OUR TIME. WE WERE UNDER ATTACK BY THE PRO-RH ON ONE SIDE AND WE ARE UNDER ATTACK OF THE SSPX ON THE OTHER. THEY ARE EQUALLY DEMONIC IN ORIGIN.

  2. Hi. I'm Lara Gilua and I'm a student from DLS-CSB. I just want to ask about the foundation of the church, its historical marker, church symbols, vision and mission of St. Jerome Emiliani and Sta. Susana Parish. I have this project in school and it's due on Monday. Thank you so much po in advance. Have a wonderful day. :)

  3. Padre,

If I am not mistaken, they launched a "Rosary Crusade" against the RH Bill and it was endorsed by a number of Catholic prelates including Cardinal Vidal, no less. Perhaps, their prayers also helped.

NO, IT DIDN'T HELPED BECAUSE THEY REFUSE THE AUTHORITY OF THE POPE AND OF THE LORD ARCHBISHOP OF CEBU AND ALL BISHOPS. IT IS HYPOCRITICAL ON THE PART OF SSPX.

THEY ARE ONLY RIDING ON THE STRENGTH OF CBCP OPPOSITION AGAINST THE RH BILL BUT THEIR GOAL IS TO ATTRACT FOLLOWERS AND NOT TO SUPPORT THE POPE AND THE BISHOPS WHOM THEY DISOBEY ON LITURGICAL AND CANONICAL MATTERS.

THE ROSARY MUST BE RECITED WITH THE INTENTIONS OF THE POPE AND NOT AS AN INSTRUMENT TO OPPOSE THE POPE AND THE BISHOPS. SO, AGAIN THE ROSARY CRUSADE OF SSPX IS MERE HYPOCRISY. IF THEY DISOBEY THE POPE IN THE HOLY MASS THE HIGHEST PRAYER THEY DISOBEY THE POPE ALSO IN DEVOTIONAL PRAYERS.

  5. Padre, naman. If God lends his ears to non-Catholics and non-Christians, I don't see a reason that He will not hear their prayers too. They are still Catholics, though not in good standing, after all.

YOU SEE THE HYPOCRISY THAT YOU ARE MANIFESTING RYAN.

YOU ARE AGAINST ECUMENISM AND INTER-RELIGIOUS PRAYER YET NOW YOU ARE CLAIMING THAT GOD COULD HEAR THE PRAYERS OF THE NON-CATHOLICS. THE PROBLEM WITH YOU IS THAT I DIDN'T SAY THAT THEIR PRAYERS ARE NOT HEARD BY GOD BUT THEIR PRAYERS IS HYPOCRITICAL. THE SSPX ARE HYPOCRITE.
